METAMORPHOSES: NEW FORMS FROM THE BODY AND LANGUAGE

WORKSHOP LEADER: Leigh Hopkins with pre-recorded video lessons and prompts w/ Lidia Yuknavitch

WHERE: Online for 6-weeks in a rich interactive platform, beginning 5/19/19

COST: $350

HOW: Each week has a pre-recorded video lesson from Lidia Yuknavitch for you to watch on your own time, as well as a written summary of the video, and a prompt. You post your response to the prompt (between 500-1500 words) by the end of the week for leader and peer collaboration. You will have continuous interaction and conversations online with Leigh, and she will provide feedback on your work at least 3 times. She is available for video conference calls upon request.

PARTICIPANT EXPECTATION: You are expected to give feedback, which we provide a how-to-guide for, to at least two other writers' work every week. This is important and a commitment we ask you to take seriously.

INSTRUCTOR BIO: A native of New York, Leigh Hopkins left a career in education reform to move to Brazil, where she founded an online institute by rigging a satellite dish to a boulder in a banana field. Among her career highlights (swimming instructor, organic farmer, and vegan chef), Leigh was the Vice President for Education of a leading social policy think tank, where she provided programmatic and fiscal support to 500 literacy programs in historically underserved communities throughout the U.S. After returning to the U.S. from Brazil, she accepted the invitation to be a columnist at Corporeal Writing, and was later invited to curate a weekly column. Today, Leigh teaches storytelling and generative writing workshops in the Philadelphia. Her essays have been published in The Philadelphia Inquirer, ENTROPY Magazine, Elephant Journal, The Manifest-Station, and others. An excerpt from her memoir in progress was recently accepted at Longreads with the pitch line: "lesbian vegan Brazilian cult survivor."
