Poetry creates a place for a single voice to be overheard. Because it is written in lines as well as sentences, the tension in that voice can be heard. The forms and patterns in poetry ask the reader to be embodied—to see, hear, touch, taste, and experience language. Poets in other cultures are imprisoned for the voices in their poems. In America, the poet is less noticed by authority, consumerism and politics. As art and creative practice, poetry speaks outside other kinds of power. It doesn’t “matter.”  It IS MATTER (corporeality of all nature). That’s your window.
