Corporeal Screenwriting: The Heart Of Writing For The Screen
WHEN: 6 Wednesdays, 7-9pm, beginning on 9/27/17 and wrapping on 11/1/17
WHERE: The Corporeal Center in downtown Portland: 510 SW 3rd Ave. Portland, OR
WORKSHOP LEADER: Andy Mingo with special guest Chuck Palahniuk (who co-wrote the screenplay adaptation of Chuck's novel, Lullaby, with Andy)
Like all Corporeal Writing workshops, this workshop brings focus to process and collaboration, as well as meaning-making in artistic practice by and through the body and lived experience. Whether you're a first time screenwriter with a vision for film, or you've written a fictional piece you would like to adapt to the big screen, this 6-week workshop is for you. Each week will focus on finding connections with your story and writing it into a script. Weekly writing exercises will culminate in a final ten-page short script at the end of the workshop.
This will be a workshop that moves beyond tired-out formulas and flat academic ideas, right past traditional screenplay formats and three act script structure, and deep into the belly of the creative process to explore the emotional meaning you bring to the page and unearth writing and film innovations. We will develop characterization from the inside out and discover a connection with a scripted story that will be ready to film.
Andy Mingo, a seasoned screenwriter who has adapted fiction to screen from authors like Monica Drake, Lidia Yuknavitch, and Chuck Palahniuk, will lead us in these new ways to be inside the screenwriting process from the inside out of our bodies and experiences. He brings extensive teaching experience in film production, screenwriting, and writing to his commercial and film work as a co-founder of MindPollen Studios, and offers a collaborative process that moves away from the ego-centered model of filmmaking and toward multi-vocal, plurality of image, emotion and action.
